Heavy monsoon rains and flooding have poured down in Pakistan since mid June, causing the deaths of more than 1,300 people and affecting the lives of 33 million across the country. More than 6 million people are estimated to need assistance. Hundreds of thousands of houses have been destroyed. Livelihoods, livestock and crops are also severely affected.
Until September 28, 2022, donations made to the Humanitarian Coalition will
be matched by the Government of Canada, up to $3 million. The Humanitarian
Coalition comprises 12 leading Canadian humanitarian organizations, including
the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Through its membership in the Foodgrains Bank, PWRDF’s donations are eligible to receive the federal match.
On August 31, PWRDF allocated an emergency grant of $30,000 to a Foodgrains Bank-funded project in Sindh province, the area most affected by flooding. The project is providing monthly cash assistance to so that people can purchase food to fee their families.
