New Diocesan Sexual Misconduct Policy
At its meeting on Friday, February 3rd, 2023, Diocesan Council approved a new Diocesan Sexual Misconduct Policy, which you will find at the link below. This policy was approved in principle at a meeting of Diocesan Council on September 25th, 2022, and now incorporates feedback from a lawyer specializing in employment law. The policy was previously reviewed by individuals in a variety of institutional settings with expertise in addressing sexual misconduct matters and in trauma-informed approaches. It is the result of a significant amount of time and effort over the past five years or so, led by the Reverend Lorraine Street. I would like to thank Lorraine and the Committee who worked with her on developing this policy. Together, the Committee has many years of experience in the areas of Social Work, Human Rights, Criminal Law, Risk Management, Pastoral Ministry and Advocacy.
I have appointed the Reverend John Newton to serve in the role of “Point Person.” As described in the policy, the Point Person is the individual responsible for administering the policy on behalf of the Diocese. John is a retired Anglican priest who served in our Diocese for many years and has relevant experience in this area.
Please review the policy in detail and reach out with any questions or concerns. Further materials about the policy are being prepared, including an Executive Summary and a brochure.
