Anglican Church Women Board

Encouraging and supporting in their ministry all Anglican Women

The Anglican Church Women LOGO, is symbolic of our Purpose: To encourage and support all women . . . is symbolized by the three gold rings intertwined; awakening a greater desire for God’s mission and Christian service . . . is symbolized by the lighted candle; in the parish, diocese, community, nation, and world. . . is symbolized by a red circle enclosing the candle and rings. The symbols and colours are significant: Red is for charity; Gold is for the richness of God's blessing; and White is for joy.

How does the anglican church women board address its purpose?

Ø  Operates each year with a theme; for 2021/22 the theme is Community: Care . . . Courage . . . Compassion

Ø  Organizes itself into 5 broad areas of Ministry: 1. Planning & Administration; 2. Communication & Relationship-building; 3. Education; 4. Leadership Development; and, 5. Spiritual Development

Ø  Invites your ideas and inquiry about these ministries and how they can best be developed

Ø  Sponsors and promotes an Annual Outreach Project (alternating with a local, national, and international focus). The Annual Project 2021/22 (local focus), the Marguerite Centre: A Future with Hope (from Jeremiah 29:11), welcomes contributions from individuals, parish groups, and parishes to support a resident for a year at the Marguerite Centre, a place of healing for women recovering from addictions, the only place of its kind in the Maritimes

Ø  Organizes and coordinates the sale of the Canadian Church Calendars to the parishes

Ø  Arranges Prayer Partners, when requested, and coordinates and promotes Parish Prayer Partners in the diocese, as debuted at Synod 2017 (see the Board’s webpage for the list)

Ø  Awards Kingston Memorial Fund Bursaries to qualifying AST students and an Anniversary Bursary to women pursuing continuing education in a recognized program

Ø  Sponsors and organizes, in partnership with a hosting parish, special leadership and / or spiritual development / learning events

Ø  Encourages regions in the diocese to hold a Regional Gathering for women to foster fellowship, provide a corporate worship service, and offer an educational / spiritual development opportunity

Ø  Sends (a) Board representative(s) to the National Executive Conference (Anglican Church Women Diocesan Presidents and Coordinators across Canada)

Ø  Provides leadership for the White Ribbon Campaign, in companionship with the International Anglican Women’s Network (IAWN) and the diocesan Mothers’ Union, to raise awareness about gender-based violence and the need for all women and girls to feel safe and secure

Ø  Promotes the concept of a Women’s Ministry Sunday to recognize the many ways that Anglican women (often with men alongside) live out God’s mission in the world

Ø  Renews its membership each year in the Anglican Foundation and encourages others to do the same

Ø  Publishes 3 times a year the Anglican Church Women Board Magazine, Keeping in Touch, and the every 2nd month electronic Newsletter, Let’s Keep in Touch

Ø  Provides a monthly column and ad in The Diocesan Times and regular updates on the Anglican NetNews and the Board’s Facebook page

Ø  Promotes participation in healthy leadership development opportunities, provided by the Board and the diocese, and promotes the significant leadership potential of organized women’s ministry in support of a parish’s vision and priorities and those of the diocese

Ø  Encourages women to exemplify the diocesan vision for healthy leadership for lay and ordained*, as they seek to be “a Christ-centred, mission-minded, ministering community of faith”?

Ø  Seeks your gifts and talents in support of the varied ministries of the Anglican Church Women Board? Consider the many ways that you can be part of the Board’s ministries.

*The 5 Cs of healthy leadership are: the ability to promote positive change in seeking God's mission, while building capacity, fostering community, enhancing confidence, and developing competence.

Inviting women into the ministry of the Anglican Church Women Board . . .

Members of the Anglican Church Women Diocesan Board extend a welcome invitation to contribute to the ministry of the Board in some way. The Board can use your spiritual gifts and talents, your ideas and inquiry. The love of Jesus is calling you to be part of the evolving reality of the Board in new and wondrous ways to better serve women in these swiftly changing days. You can be part of this validating ministry. Speak to any Board member about ways that you can contribute to the ministry and mission of the Board. Let us give thanks to God, knowing that his power working in us can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine!

Ephesians 3: 29 - To him who by means of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of, to God be the glory, in the church and in Christ Jesus, for all time, for ever and ever! Amen.

ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN NATIONAL PRAYER – CANADA

THE LOVE OF JESUS CALLS US

Almighty God, we pray for your blessing and grace on our work as Anglican Church Women in Canada. We give you thanks and praise for giving us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding so that we may serve you in spirit and in truth. Called to be your church, may our study, learning, worship, and service be always to your glory and the building of your kingdom in our communities and throughout the world. In our ministry may we always respond to the needs of others with your love. We pray in the name of the one who redeems and loves us, Your Son, Jesus our Saviour. Amen.

ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN - NATIONAL GRACE

God, Our Father, as we Anglican Church Women gather here with friends, we ask you to enter into our fellowship and conversation as our unseen guest. As we share this meal together, we thank you for all your blessings: for life and health, tears and laughter, fun and fellowship, and for our homes and loved ones. We ask you now to bless this gift of food which you have given to nourish us, and bless the hands of those who have prepared it. May it satisfy our hunger, and, in sharing it together, may we draw closer to you and to one another. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN - NATIONAL THANKS AFTER MEALS

Thank you, Father, for the meal and fellowship we have just shared and enjoyed together. Make us ever thankful for all the gifts of your mercy, and make us faithful in their use. Grant that we may always recognize your loving kindness and show our appreciation for all we have received. Make us ever mindful of the needs of others. In Jesus’ holy name, we pray. Amen.
